This series is the second series in the Ultra Series after the tokusatsu series Ultra Q, but is the first series to feature Ultraman. Consisting of 39 episodes in total, the series first aired on the Japanese television network TBS from 17 July 1966 to 9 April 1967. Ultraman was created by Eiji Tsuburaya of Tsuburaya Productions, a special effects pioneer.
